Isn't it amazing how far photography has come? I believe the first camera was developed in the fifteenth century. And so many advancements have been made since then.
My son was the reason we got our new fancy DSLR. Of course it's the most expensive camera we've owned. But it's been paid for a billion times over by now. We got a Canon Eos Rebel T3 Digital SLR Camera Body + EF-S 18-55mm Is II Lens. We got it in a small bundle so it came with the nice case and memory card. I love it! So far it's been easy to use. But I still haven't learned how to do anything fancy on it. Everyone in my photography clubs have Nikons and they swap tips. Not sure how similar a set up they have with the Canons and if I can apply the same tips?
My dad just bought us a new lens for the camera, one with more zoom power! I want to say it's a 75-300 III Lens? Now I can actually take cool pictures of birds way up in the trees and other photo-op moments from a distance. It will be easy to take pictures of animals without having to come too close and scaring them off. Super cool. And I can get much use out of it whenever we get the chance to go on our Zoo trip since the animals sometimes like to hide in the back of their habitat.
On my recent photography excursions I've been taking a bundle of photos. One event I actually maxed out my memory card. But I realized I forgot to delete the older photos which I had meant to do before I started shooting that day. It's easier to delete all the photos with one click. So I had to manually delete those 200+ which took a bit longer, and I was able to free that much up for a few more photos. When the card is empty it says I should be able to take about 700+ photos. I know that's not enough sometimes. Especially if I want to go away for the weekend and can easily take three times that before I have a chance to upload them.
So I knew it was time to get myself a bigger memory card. I picked up a 32gb SanDisk at my local Walmart on my way home from work. That was the same night that my new lens came in. When I swapped the cards it was funny to see that the older memory card was only 4gb. My phone has more than that. I popped in the 32gb and it quickly said the available space was 5200+ photos! Dude, I am SET for this weekend.
What camera are you using?
Just a little tip I learned in photography classes...when you are deleting pictures from your memory card make sure you are doing it on the camera instead of the computer. The computer leaves little data files on the card which take up space but you won't be able to see them. To delete on the camera, go to your settings and reformat the memory card to delete them all at once. Not that you'll need to do that often with a 32GB card, but thought I'd let you know!

Thanks Lacey! I do delete from the camera but that's usually because I don't feel comfortable with the "delete after uploading" option that you can set with the software. And I don't know how to delete from the computer otherwise. I do like to make sure I have all the photos in my hard drive first. And I love the option to delete all at once.
