Push Present

I was listening to the radio on my way to work this morning and heard a commercial for a local jewelry store, Bailey's.  They were advertising a new concept {at least to me} of a Push Present - this being a gift that a husband should get his wife for having a baby.  Interesting isn't it?

After doing some Googling, I found several sites and articles about this, one of which included Jessica Simpson receiving a $30,000 push present.

Now, the commercial went on to say that since The Wife had to put up with carrying the child and swollen body parts and sickness and labor and so on, that she was obligated to receive a piece of jewelry from The Husband.  I found it funny that they even made a short mention of how the husband's "contribution" goes unnoticed.

I'm all for getting pretty sparklies from Hubby but looks like the jewelry industry is working on marketing what may become yet another "Hallmark" occasion.  What will the card read?  "Thanks for pushing out our newborn child.  Just for that you deserve a push present!"

I would think hope the child would be enough gift for all.  :)

But then again, after reading some more about the idea I found that this could include a piece of jewelry {a ring or necklace for example} with the engraved date of birth and name for that specific child.  Now that sounds like a great idea.  But still, I think it's really just a bonus Mother's Day gift; you just get it soon after the baby's born if the timing is done right, rather than waiting for Mother's Day to actually arrive.

So I'll keep this in mind the next child I push out.  :)

This one's pretty - if I could get it in white gold!

  1. I love the idea of a push present! The tradition is designed to give the mother something that she will have for the rest of her life that commemorates her experience of bringing a new life into the world. The actual gift itself should be symbolic of an endless love and desire for protection of the mother and child throughout their lives. It’s deep, emotional, and beautiful. That being said, new shoes would not fall into the category of a “perfect push present”, and it is not a selfish act but rather a self-LESS act of kindness and joy. Juno Lucina just launched a whole line of beautiful push gifts for new mothers ( That is what the perfect push gift looks like.
