Stir CRAZY Eight

We've gone stir crazy this past month.  This past month being Lucas' eighth month.

Happy Eight Months Baby Boy!

Measurements -- again, no check-up this month and I didn't get around to the vet to see if I could weigh him there again.  Guess we'll just have to wait and see at his nine month appointment.
Milestones -- this is where the stir crazy comment comes in.

I did my army crawling like a Champ and excelled super duper fast around the house.  Eventually I was exploring new rooms.  I love zipping down the hallway to go into my bathroom.  It has one of those things on the floor that puts out air and it's so cool.  So does the entryway.  I like to go straight for the holes in the floor {vents} as often as I can.

I'm also still working on pulling myself up.  Eventually I'm gonna be able to stand up tall like everyone else.

Now that I'm getting mobile I get dirty A LOT now.  I can't keep any outfit clean.  The front of my shirts just collect dirt off of the floors.  So did my socks.  So now I get to wear my shoes more often.  I've got a few pair.  But I got a cool new pair this month because i'm a Rock Star!  Even my teacher said she wanted a pair in her size.  :)

Did you know those furry siblings of mine get to eat off the floor??  It's so cool.  But when I went to dig into one of the bowls it was empty.  And Mama caught me.  More than once.  So then they put up some thing they call a gate.  Then I couldn't even get to it!

It does have a little doorway.  And I watched those kitties real careful and saw how they got through, and I got through too!  Daddy caught me though.

I'm still trying new foods every week and Mama introduced something called Yogurt.  I wasn't too big of a fan, at first.  It must be too healthy or something.  But eventually I got to liking it.  Oh, and Mama now gives me pieces of fruit in a mesh thingy that I can hold myself.  I love that!

I also made another attempt with Gerber's Puffs.  If you recall the first time around didn't go so well.  We tried it again and this time I figured out that I can put it into my mouth all by myself.  And I ate about three of them too.  But I kept gagging though.  Even though they had dissovled {Mama checked} so I wasn't actually choking.  But after about the third puff I finally gagged good enough and puked it all up.  I guess I'll have to hold off a little while longer.  Or maybe try a different flavor?

But best of all I love to take naps with Mama and Dada, especially a good nap right before bedtime.

Alphabet Scramble: H is for...

This week's Alphabet Scramble is brought to you by the letter H!
Hat - You gotta keep that little head covered! Lucas' very first knitted hat was given to us by our Nurse at the hospital. She was the first nurse I had when I arrived for my induction at the hospital. So she was there all day with me until about 7pm. I had another nurse the rest of the night until I delivered just before 5am. But at 7am she was back to meet Lucas and get me settled into our Mother/Baby room. Before we left the hospital she gave us a baby blue knitted hat that she said her mother had made. She likes to make several of them and pass them out to the babies. It's a lot more special than the generic hospital hat that we were also given.
Hammock - This is the affectionate name we have given Lucas' Fisher Price Newborn Rock and Play Sleeper. We love this thing and use it every day. We used it for the first few weeks after he was born so he could sleep right next to me. It's so portable that we just moved it back and forth between the bedroom and the living room. And we've taken it with us on trips, which is a spacesaver compared to pack 'n plays. Now it just stays in the living room, and in the mornings we put him in it and set it in front of the television so he can watch music videos or sports. And on nights he doesn't feel very well we will put him in it to sleep so he'll be inclined.

High chair - We just invested in a Spacesaver high chair that grows as your child does and it takes up less space since it just fits on one of your existing chairs. I also picked up awhile ago a portable one that looks just like the fold up chairs we use at the race track. That will be his very own racing seat.
Hungry - I've posted this video of Lucas before. This is his I'm-Hungry-Cry. :)

Solids to Sleep

First attempt at introducing Lucas to solid foods involved a little bit of rice cereal.  I did what the box said, 1Tbsp of cereal to 4-5 Tbsp of formula mixed up in a bowl.  Overall, I probably got him to take half of it, and even then maybe only half of that he swallowed with the rest ending up on his bib or all over his chin.  Good thing we gave him his bath afterward and not before.

I even tried to give him the last half in his bottle, which from my readings is not recommended because "they" want baby to associate the food with a spoon not the bottle.  But yeah, that didn't work so well either.  He was either full, as I gave him some regular formula in between attempts, or he was just not fooled.  Oh well, we shall attempt again this evening.  This weekend I plan on picking up some veggies for him to try.  Squash? Sweet Potato?

I will also say that he had one more bottle before bed time.  Hubby put him to bed around 10pm (I was already asleep by 9pm after having my Theraflu).  I woke up to him continuously coughing in the first hour.  When I kept checking him he was sleeping on his side and looked peaceful even through the awful coughing noises.  So Hubby put him in his "hammock" so he'd sleep inclined and I never heard another noise out of him.  By 6am I had to actually wake him up instead of him rousing himself.  He pretty much slept through his diaper change too.   I'd say he slept good!

Sleeping like a Baby

I woke up at 2:30am to go pee.  And I peeked at Lucas when I did.  This is what I saw.

He was sleeping on his side!

I've tried before to put him down to sleep on his side when he's been snotty and congested but he always just laid flat automatically.

One step closer to him rolling over on his own.

I don't need sleep

It looks like we've started our three month growth spurt a little early.  Lucas just would not sleep for very long last night.  He probably only slept for about four hours when he started to stir just before 2am I think it was.  I laid him on my chest for a bit and he seemed to rest great there.  So I move him back to his bed and lay him down but NO, MAMA, I DON'T WANT TO LAY DOWN HERE!

I just couldn't bring myself to get up just yet to feed him.  He didn't seem hungry, just that he wanted to sleep with Mama.  He usually stirs some time between 3-4am when I feed him then.  But eventually 2:45am rolled around and I gave up.  Fed him and put him back down about 3:30am.  He finally went back to sleep, but only until about 5:30am.  Well guess what DAD, you always get the 6am feeding so it's your turn!

By 6:30am I am yet again roused from my sleep with Lucas stirring.  Hubby had already fed and changed him and supposedly he fell asleep so was put back to bed.  Well he didn't sleep long at all then.  So I turned on his little night light/music turtle and he fought sleep but eventually got a little bit more.

I think about every 15 minutes he woke me up...

Until finally it was 8am and I couldn't take it anymore.  We got up and went into the living room.  Time to get the tv turned on and play.

Fed him again around 9am, this time he had a little extra and took it all.  My growing boy...  It is now almost 10am and he is finally dozing.  Let's see how long this nap lasts.

Zzzz...
