Alphabet Scramble: Z
Let's get this thing over with, shall we? Here is the final letter for the Alphabet Scramble.
Z
Zinc (diaper rash) cream - I've said it before that we've been fortunate that Lucas hasn't had any diaper rash problems. But we have some tubes of Destitin on standby.
Zoo - I had a zoo trip scheduled but it just wasn't in the cards for enough of the family to go. And I know Lucas is still so young and not quite old enough to fully enjoy the trip. But he is so observant and I really think he'd love seeing all the animals. In the meantime he does have a blanket that my MIL has made from a zoo-animal print.
Alphabet Scramble: I
I
Infant - Lucas has long since been in the baby stage, oh no. He is an Infant! :) Maybe it's just a more politically correct term? I dunno. Anywho, he's my infant and that's all that matters!
ID tag - Yes, of course we saved Lucas' tags, as well as mine, from the hospital! Our first souvenirs.
Induction - I won't go into this, just that I had to have one. And it took awhile because they couldn't increase my doses until the current dose steadied out enough. But eventually it got me where I needed to be, obviously. :)
Alphabet Scramble: Q
Q
Quilt - Aside from the afghans and handmade blankets that Lucas has he doesn't have any actual quilts. And I'm talking the patchwork kind. I actually started making one before he was born and I have all the squares sewn together. I just stopped at the part where you need to sew it together with the batting. For that I need to have the correct type of needle for my sewing machine and I just haven't gotten around to it. I really need to get that done though, before he's too big to use it!
Alphabet Scramble: W
W
Weight - He's still in the 25 percentile as of his six month appointment but the doctor has no concerns. And with the daily intake of solid food he should beefen up no problem. You can check out Lucas' montly updates to see his progress.
Words - Much like I said in regards to his Talking, he's starting to put more and more sounds together. He's not making any actual words just yet other than what I imagine he is saying in my own mind.
Walking/Walkers - Not in this stage yet {fortunately}! But he's a strong {assisted} stander. If you have any recommendations for walkers I would love to hear what works the best.
Alphabet Scramble: S
S
Scrapbook - I've got a few scrapbooks in the works. One I received from a baby shower that is for each of Lucas' birthdays, so that won't get finished until after he's turned 18. That's a long work in progress. Meanwhile I've been accumulating scrapbook stuff for all the holidays since he's been born and holding onto certain cards, etc., so that I can complete a scrapbook for his first year. The plan is to do one for each year. I hope I can stick to that idea too.
Smiles - Lucas is all about some smiles. As I've said before, he's always called the "happiest baby" wherever we go because he will just bust out a smile at anyone. At daycare they actually get concerned if he gets the slightest bit fussy because "that's just not him." I love that boy!
Snores - Yes, he does. But it's just so darn cute!
Socks - I'm a little bit crazy about his socks. I don't like the plain white socks. They have to be colorful! And by the end of the day he's usually not wearing them anyway. He loves to eat his own toes so he usually pulls his sock off to get to them.
Stroller - We don't use it enough. We've taken Lucas out a few times, a walk in the park or around the mall, but we just need to do more of that.
Swing - Early on we borrowed my SIL's swing for Lucas and he loved it. But it died. It wasn't just battery operated though, it used a wall outlet. So we're still not sure what went on with the wiring but it just decided one day it didn't want to go on anymore. So eventually I picked up a Graco swing base that just uses your Graco carseat. Not a big fan of it, it basically was just a seat holder for us. Recently I actually just packed it away because the floor can do that just fine. The speed control was either slow {barely moving} or super duper fast.
Alphabet Scramble: X
X
Xylophone - Nana has a small little piano-style toy that we keep at their house for Lucas to play with. He enjoys it. Let's just call it a xylophone for lack of other X-words. :) We also have one at our house that we just got recently. It's actually part of an activity table but we're not using the legs attached just yet.
Alphabet Scramble: T
T
Talk - Lucas is very chattery these days. He's starting to make more and more different sounds. I think that Dada or Daddy will come long before Mama or Mommy. But that's okay.
Teething - Yeah, he's been doing that for the longest time in a drooling sense. No teeth yet!
Alphabet Scramble: O
O
Orajel - We haven't had to use much of this at all. Lucas still hasn't cut any teeth but he is still "teething" which we currently attribute only to drooling crazy. There have been a few times where he's been really fussy and we tried everything - he's dry and clean, he's fed, he's had a nap. So just in case it was his gums I put a dab of Orajel on his pacifier and he would be all better. I can't wait till we really need it! {sarcasm of course} :) But, we've also got the Orajel brand toothpaste...for when those teeth finally show up.
Onesies - I don't even know if he wears all of the ones we have for him. There are soooo many. I try to rotate as best I can. But now that he's in the 6-9 month size we've started putting him more in the non-onesie outfits, meaning the actual t-shirts and shorts/pants. So the onesies just might be phasing out for the most part.
Oatmeal Cereal - He's not a fan. I think it's too plain for him. Although that doesn't explain why he enjoys the taste of formula so much {bleh!}. Once I finish this one box I'm going to get the flavored kind that Gerber makes. Maybe he'll want it more often.
Alphabet Scramble: K
K
Kisses - Oh, I give Lucas tons and tons of these. He just hasn't figured out just yet how to return them. We keep trying to teach him how to make a fishie face. But so far, all I get is Lucas' mouth wide open. Definitely not what I'm looking for. :)
Kicks - Lucas just goes crazy with his legs. He did so in my belly and he continues to do so now. It can be a struggle on the changing table sometimes because his kicking legs just get in the way. But it just means he's got some strong legs...and he's already standing up {with assistance} really well...next up, walking!
Alphabet Scramble: C
C
Car rides - Lucas historically has done rather well riding in the car. Thanks to the movement of the car he typically falls asleep rather quickly and stays asleep majority of the ride. We even drove all the way to Florida with him at only four weeks old, and other than having to stop every 2-3 hours for me to breastfeed and change him it went rather quickly {I think it probably made what should be an eight hour drive an eleven hour drive}.
Changing table - He's almost as long as his changing table is. I don't see how you can get much use out of it for more than the first year. Guess we'll start using the floor! :)
Clothes - Oh my goodness, this boy has quite the wardrobe. Every three months I've had to sweep through his closet and pack up the old and hang up the new. It is exciting to have all new outfits for him though.
Crawl - Lucas is currently in that pre-crawl stage. He's scooting all over the place and especially once he hits the hardwood floor he starts to really move. {Time to begin the baby-proofing process.} Next I'll be searching Google to find a dust mop outfit for him to wear to keep our floors clean at the same time...

Alphabet Scramble: F is for...
This week begins the second half of the alphabet. Whew. Let's get this half of the Alphabet Scramble started out with the letter F!
Family - I have two sets of families. The one I grew up with and my new family. :) Here we are!
![]() |
| Dad, Mom, Jon, Nick and Trisha |
![]() |
| Curtis, Trisha and Lucas |
Feet - I love baby feet. Lucas is lucky he has my feet and not Hubby's. {Just trust me!}
Fever - Fortunately, Lucas hasn't had too many of these, especially nothing major. But he did get sent home from school one day because their threshold is 101 degrees. He actually was only at 100.5 but they called us anyway. But when Hubby got the call he could have sworn he heard them say "One hundred five" which of course is 105! That's an ER visit we're talking about... But they left out the "point" and really meant 100.5, so we panicked for nothing. Better safe than sorry.

| What'cha gonna do with that, Mama?? |
Finger Food - We recently tried this with Lucas and that was at Easter when he got a canister of Gerber Graduates Puffs (Banana) in his basket from his Grammy and Granddaddy. We were all sitting at the table eating our Easter ham. I broke out the canister and gave him one to play with and see if he would take it. I showed him it was for eating and put it in his mouth. He had it in there for a little bit and then spit it out. I put in his mouth a second time because it wasn't dissolved yet. The boy choked on it! Fortunately it wasn't too bad. Grammy was able to baby Heimlich him. Needless to say we will be holding off on the Puffs for awhile.

Firsts - We've had some firsts so far. But not the major ones like crawling or standing or walking or talking... ::sigh:: He's not grown up just yet. So his firsts so far have consisted of:
Milestones:

First Events: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Super Bowl, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter
|
Formula - We were unfortunately unsuccessful at breastfeeding due to both problems with myself and Lucas. He had problems latching correctly because he is slightly tongue-tied. {Here is a good explanation.} In addition, I ended up not producing as much or as well as I had thought I would. So within the first week we were using formula to supplement the breast milk. Until eventually it was the breast milk that became the supplement to the formula.
I absolutely hated pumping. It might have been due to the fact that I would spend nearly an hour and only get two-four ounces of milk - from both boobs total! It became more of an inconvenience unfortunately.
So after two months of disappointment I decided to give up and Lucas is solely formula-fed. It is expensive of course, and I'm finding a little bit of savings by purchasing from Costco. I'm able to get a larger container for about the same cost AND I've been getting $5 voucher checks in the mail from Similac to use. Those little registration cards at the doctor's office are good for something. We also get free samples from the doctor's office whenever we go in for check-ups, like this week.

Alphabet Scramble: U is for...
This week's Alphabet Scramble is brought to you be the letter U!
We're officially starting the back half of the alphabet. It's downhill from here.
Uncles {and Aunt!} - Lucas has several of these!
Ultrasound - I first found out I was pregnant with the simple home test. It was important for me to confirm this surprise with the Doctor. So when we had our first ultrasound it was a mixture of emotions. I think Hubby and I both held our breaths. And then once we saw the sack on the screen the Doctor gave us the confirmation and finally came the excitement. Hubby actually told me he heard me release the breath I was holding. Below are some of the pictures over the months, when my turtle was growing in my belly. :)

Alphabet Scramble: L is for...
The week isn't over yet! Although it is Saturday and I waited to the last minute but here is your Alphabet Scramble for this week, the letter L. The best letter there is!Laughter - check out this recent video of Lucas. Grandpa really got him going.
Lotion - This is a definite to keep our baby baby smooth. After bath time I always lather him up with Aveeno baby lotion. Sometimes he'll giggle about it. Hubby usually comments about how slippery he gets. :)

Lucas - That's my boy!!
Lullaby - I have several CD's with lullabies on them - with one currently in Lucas' boombox in his room. But we get the most use out of the two musical toys that are fastened to his crib.

75. Get my handwriting analyzed
I have to admit that when I first thought about doing this one I searched "Get my handwriting analyzed" online. The first two site listings that I saw mentioned $300 and $290 for their analysis. No way I'm paying $$ to complete a task in this challenge! So then I re-searched as "Get my handwriting analyzed free" and got a hit. I came across this site, The Hand Behind the Word.
It lets you hand-write your own sample and self-evaluate. Then they give you the results in a report.
Here is my Sample.
And here is the free report result of my self-evaluation from The Hand Behind the Word.
You're at a place where you wouldn't really mind eeking out there a little more and making yourself more known and seen, but still you're not sure that the Patricia Newman you know is ready for the Grand Stage or the Big League of public attention. Your general outlook on life is positive and you tend to be optimistic. Do people ever say you're stiff and stoic? Is it hard for you to get a move on yourself when it comes to social situations? Seems you might want to loosen up a bit! Since you pretty much like to keep yourself the same most of the time, you're probably apt to be as approachable at any give time as you would any other.
Lone Rangers often keep a bit of distance between themselves and others. Do you ever hear people define Patricia Newman as a Lone Ranger? Or is it that you're more of what some might define as "a creative force of the next generation!" Either way, you don't mind straying from that straight and narrow path, shall we say, so you get good marks for originality! I guess that you must be something of a sentimentalist, eh? Do people ever say, "Oh, yeah: Patricia Newman can really be an old softie sometimes! A real kind soul." But then, this can get you into trouble sometimes, too, though, because you can have a difficult time saying "No!" and can feel guilty for not being All things to All People!!You likely tend to be a quite quiet person and don't like to rock the boat. You probably are a careful reader, and don't like to jump to conclusions about anything.
Yes, I have to admit I had to look up what "eeking" meant. Altogether, I guess it's pretty accurate. If you know me would you say so?

Something I don't like (Pet Peeve)
The definition from Wikipedia: A pet peeve (or pet hate) is a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to him or her, to a greater degree than others may find it.
The reason I bring this up is because for my Photo a Day challenge from fat mum slim for April 17 is "Something I don't like". And well, there are plenty of things I don't like. But one thing in particular has been brought up recently, and well, really it lingers in the air all the time for me. And because this post is about a Pet Peeve you can expect to hear me rant, so be forewarned. However, I will try not to get heated!
Hi, my name is Patricia. But you can call me Trisha.
Trisha (or Tricia) is a derivative of the name Patricia, a "nickname" if you will.
Those are the ONLY two names I introduce myself as. Don't think you know me well enough to call me anything else. Particularly Pat or Trish. This particular Pet Peeve is geared toward "Trish". You see, the Trouble with Trisha, is that it further gets shortened to Trish. I don't hear Pat that often because professionally I choose to go by my nickname, Trisha, just for that very reason.
So, as I was saying. I don't like to be called Trish. I never introduced myself to You as "Trish", so why are you calling me "Trish"?? Don't think you have the right to shorten my nickname any further because chances are you don't know me well enough to do so. Even if you THINK you know me well enough. My marrying into your family still does not give you special rights to call me that. Nope, not at all.
Yeah, so part of that problem was that when Hubby and I started dating he introduced me to his family as "Trish" and being the great gal that I am and trying to impress the family I never corrected him or them. Well, I've been doing a LOT of correcting lately. I had that talk with Hubby way back to never introduce me as "Trish", but unfortunately the damage had been done and it stuck. And whenever his family introduces me to yet more family or friends I again get introduced incorrectly. So, as I've said, I've been doing a lot of correcting lately. I've tried to make it clear to them now and I'm not afraid to do so.
Now, after having said all this, there is a very short list of those that I allow to call me "Trish", and that would be my family. My family, as in my blood relatives. They've known me all my life. Again, not the in-laws. And maybe, just maybe, some very close personal friends of mine. The only other exception to this "rule" is a nickname I earned in high school from a teacher, who gave EVERYONE nicknames. Usually it was just adding "Sue" after their name for the gals, but I was lucky I guess. I had something to rhyme with my name. Thus, I was called "Trish the Dish". :) That, and only that, is an acceptable use of the form "Trish". It is flattering, so why not? Thanks Coach Johnson!
Do you have a pet peeve? Please share - I don't want to be in the wrong when it comes to you. :)

Alphabet Scramble: E is for...
Easter - We had a great Easter trip. See my previous post for all the details
and pictures.

Baby Einstein - We have a ton
of these infant products in Lucas' toybox. I have to say that at my baby
showers I received THREE of the Baby Einstein Takealong
Tunes. They are popular! And we have the Shapes & Numbers Discovery Cards
which he really likes to chew on. :) The Catepillar is big at our house. And I
know we have more toys stashed away for when he gets older. [ images ]
Engineer - Hubby is one of these. And I've worked with many of these.
They think they are so smart but some times they can be a big pain. :) But
there is another definition for this word. And this photo is of Lucas'
engineer outfit; I love the hat! It's too big for him right now so I couldn't snap a picture of him in it. But I'm sure you'll see pictures of him in it in the upcoming months. An "engineer" just like Daddy, well,
almost!Wednesday, April 11, 2012
Travel Bucket List
So there have been several List Challenges going around on Facebook this past week and one in particular that I did was the Travel List Challenge - 100 places to visit before you die. Below is the list, which I had originally calculated that I'd only been to FIVE of the ONE HUNDRED. And even after reviewing it again that may be a stretch.
#6 Atlantic City Boardwalk - Okay, I've been to Atlantic City, but now that I think about it I don't know if I actually went to the Boardwalk itself. So that will have to get a Redo. No biggie, my family is from Jersey. :)
#49 Las Vegas Strip - That's a definite! I was there for over a week, which is way too long by the way.
#62 Niagra Falls (NY) - Yup. Was there for about an hour on an NCAA trip. And we entered the Canadian side too, for like, maybe 15 minutes or so? I don't even remember if we got out of the bus at all. This one wasn't very eventful and definitely gets a Redo as well.
#80 Smithsonian Institution - Okay, my family went to DC when I was very young, 8 or 9 maybe? And we went to so many of the tourist sites in DC. So I really don't recall if we actually went into the Smithsonian or not. And I'm pretty sure we never went inside the White House either (#97).
#94 Walt Disney World Resort - Hmm, I missed the "Resort" portion when I checked this box. I've definitely been to Disney World a few times, but never actually to the resort. So this one will be added back to the list.
#95 Washington Monument - I must have overlooked this one because I didn't check it the first time. That same trip to DC we took when I was younger, I'm confident the Monument was one of the sites we did in fact see.
And considering I've never left the country (aside from that brief 15 minutes in Canada's Niagra Falls) the 85-90 or so that are outside of the US are definitely not checked.
I've decided that I need to make many trips in the upcoming years. And my challenge is to see as many of these places as I can in my lifetime, and not just myself but with Hubby. He better get on board! And I better work on getting that passport. Although I can guarantee that the US sites will be first on the list to conquer.
